About the Pacific Seacraft 27 Sailboat

The Pacific Seacraft 27 — marketed as the Orion 27 — is a heavy-displacement bluewater cruising sloop designed by Pacific Seacraft co-founder Henry Mohrschladt and built from 1979 to approximately 1993. At just over 27 feet on deck with a full keel and protected rudder, the Orion 27 was built to a standard rarely seen at its price point: solid fiberglass construction, bronze hardware, and teak interior joinery give her a traditional offshore character that belies her modest size. Available in sloop, cutter, and yawl configurations, she could carry up to 539 square feet of sail in the double-headsail yawl rig and was capable of ocean passages in experienced hands. An updated version, the Orion 27-2, followed in 1981 with a longer coachroof and additional portlights; together the two variants account for a significant portion of the bluewater 27-footers still sailing today.
