The O'Day 240 is a 24-foot trailerable daysailer and weekender designed by C.R. Hunt & Associates and built by O'Day Corporation in 1988 and 1989. Though production was brief — fewer than two years before O'Day's closure — the 240 represents the final expression of the company's commitment to accessible, family-oriented sailing. Its shallow wing keel keeps draft under three feet, making the boat easy to trail and launch at typical ramp facilities while still providing enough lateral resistance for confident upwind sailing. The cockpit is wide and self-bailing, suited to day sailing with a crew of three or four. Below, a simple cuddy cabin offers basic overnight accommodations — a V-berth forward and minimal galley — adequate for a weekend on the hook. The masthead sloop rig is straightforward and manageable for short-handed sailing. With a displacement under 3,600 lbs and a beam of 8'3", the 240 tows easily behind a mid-sized truck or SUV. The boat's relative scarcity on the used market is a direct result of its short production run, which can make finding good examples challenging but keeps values relatively stable.
